Mark G. Osterman Joins Discovery Laboratories as Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
DOYLESTOWN, Pa., June 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Discovery Laboratories, Inc. (Nasdaq:DSCO) today announced the appointment of Mark G. Osterman as Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Osterman will be the most senior executive responsible for developing, executing and managing Discovery's commercial operations, including the commercial responsibilities of Discovery's strategic partners. Mr. Osterman's initial assignment will be to execute the potential launch of Discovery's lead product, Surfaxin(R) for the prevention of Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) in premature infants.
Complaint against Q-Med filed by Inamed
UPPSALA, Sweden, June 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Q-Med today announced that the Company has obtained information that Inamed Corporation has filed a request that the U.S International Trade Commission commence an investigation pursuant to Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 against Q-Med and Medicis Aesthetics, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation, regarding an allegation of infringement of Inamed's U.S. Patent No. 4,803,075 dated February 7, 1986 by the dermal filler, RESTYLANE(R). The Company has also obtained information that Inamed has filed an infringement action against Q-Med and Medicis in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California regarding the same patent. After a preliminary investigation regarding the above-referenced complaints, it is Q-Med's and Medicis' belief that they have meritorious defenses as to the infringement claims and the validity of the Inamed patent.

PORT HUENEME, Calif., June 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- This Memorial Day weekend as the nation honored the sacrifices of its WWII veterans, the U.S. Navy commissioned the newest ship to enter the fleet, the Aegis guided missile destroyer, USS Pinckney (DDG 91). Pinckney honors Navy Cook First Class William Pinckney (1915-1976), recipient of the Navy Cross for his courageous rescue of a fellow crewmember onboard the USS Enterprise (CV 6) during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands in 1942. The commissioning took place in a ceremony at Naval Base Ventura County on Saturday. The ship is the 19th Arleigh Burke Class destroyer built by Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC), and the 10th ship to honor an African-American.
Alpha Nutraceuticals Acquires Avidia Nutritional Group
SAN DIEGO, June 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Alpha Nutraceuticals, Inc. (Pink Sheets:ANUI) today announced that it has completed the acquisition of the business and assets of Avidia Nutritional Group, Inc., a nutritional supplement manufacturer based in Chatsworth, California. The purchase price is being paid in a combination of cash and stock. In the cash portion of the purchase price, Alpha Nutraceuticals paid off a bank note owed by Avidia totaling $135,970 and also assumed certain trade debts totaling $77,096. In addition, Alpha Nutraceuticals issued a total of 60,000 shares of its common stock to the principals of Avidia.
