QUALCOMM Licenses Header Compression Technology from Effnet
STOCKHOLM, Sweden and SAN DIEGO, Aug. 18, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Effnet AB (New Market, Stockholm: EFFN) and QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq:QCOM) today announced that QUALCOMM has obtained a production license for Effnet's IP Header Compression software. The agreement brings together QUALCOMM's technology leadership and Effnet's unique expertise within IP Header Compression. Under the agreement, QUALCOMM has the right to integrate Effnet's software into select future chipsets for CDMA2000 1xEV-DO and WCDMA (UMTS) products.

Mandated by the European Parliament and Council of the European Union, RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) requires that manufacturers reduce the usage of hazardous substances including lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, or polybrominated diphenyl in electrical and electronic equipment by July 2006. As of that date, companies whose products are not RoHS compliant will not be permitted for sale throughout Europe and eventually in parts of Asia.
