Coeur D'alene Mines Names New Directors


COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho, Dec. 9, 1998 (PRIMEZONE) -- Timothy R. Winterer and Robert E. Mellor have been named to serve on the Board of Directors of Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation (NYSE: CDE), Dennis E. Wheeler, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Coeur announced today.

Mr. Winterer recently retired as Chief Executive Officer from BHP World Minerals, which he joined 13 years ago as Senior Vice President Operations for International Minerals BHP Minerals. Before that he served various executive capacities, including Executive Vice President of Utah Development Company. Mr. Winterer is a member of the Society of Mining Engineers of America, Institute of Mining & Metallurgical Engineers and is a registered professional engineer in the states of Colorado and New Mexico. Mr. Winterer received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of North Dakota and attended Harvard Business School.

Mr. Mellor is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Building Materials Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: BMHC). BMHC is the parent of BMC West Corporation headquartered in San Francisco, California. BMHC is involved in the distribution and sales of building materials with annual sales of approximately $850 million. Prior to his career at BMHC, Mr. Mellor served as Executive Vice President/Director and Chief Administrative Officer of DiGiorgio Corporation. Mr. Mellor received his Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Westminster College.
