OGDEN, Utah, May 20, 1999 (PRIMEZONE) -- Computerized Thermal Imaging, Inc. (OTC BB: COII) (CTI), said today that its proprietary Thermal Breast Imaging System, as well as its general purpose imaging systems, generated considerable interest during a recently-completed visit to South America in a trade mission organized by Utah Governor Michael Leavitt.
"We had very productive meetings with medical community leaders, private and public hospitals and high ranking government officials in Argentina, Brazil and Chile, all of whom expressed genuine interest in our technology," said David A. Packer, CTI's president. "The trade mission allowed us to evaluate market potential, establish critical medical industry contacts and assess the unique business and regulatory practices within each country. We believe the opportunity to have face-to-face contact with these individuals allowed us to open many more doors than otherwise would have been possible," Packer added.
CTI was represented on the trade mission by David B. Johnston, CEO, David A. Packer, President and Dr. Manuel Viamonte from Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach. Mt. Sinai is one of CTI's clinical trial sites.
CTI is currently seeking FDA approval for its Thermal Breast Imaging System as an adjunctive diagnostic test to mammogram and clinical examination for the detection of breast cancer. The system is currently undergoing multi-center clinical trials to test its efficacy in differentiating benign from malignant breast abnormalities. The system uses a sophisticated heat sensitive camera to record thermal images of breast tissue. These images are then processed with a proprietary computer algorithm designed to recognize the distinct heat signatures of benign and malignant tissue. The test is simple, painless, and requires no exposure to radiation or heat compression.
