Kongsberg Defence Communications Selects Birdstep to Provide Hassle Free Connectivity and Seamless Mobility to Their Security Solution for Stationary and Portable PCs - "EnGuard"

OSLO, Norway and SEATTLE, March 14, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Birdstep Technology, a developer of high performance, small footprint databases and wireless-enabling technologies, announced today that Kongsberg Defence Communications (KDC) has selected their mobile IP client software, adding hassle-free connectivity and seamless mobility to their security solution for stationary and portable PCs - "EnGuard."

Encryption of external data sources as well as sensitive information residing on PC's and Laptops has always been an important task. With the ever-increasing nomadic lifestyles of professionals carrying company sensitive information, this has become an even greater issue.

"EnGuard," KDC's comprehensive security solution for PC's and Laptops, offers a full range of security and encryption mechanisms for communication and storing of sensitive data. The solution is targeted for defence agencies, corporate users and governmental bodies that have strict security requirements.

"Recognizing our users need for hassle-free connectivity and seamless mobility across various communication infrastructures, we have selected to incorporate Birdstep Intelligent Mobile IP Client into our product," said VP Torunn Ovreas at Kongsberg Defence Communications. "Birdstep was the only mobile IP provider that could offer an open standards based client, that was easily adaptable to our "EnGuard" solution," she continued.

KDC will launch the integrated solution in July this year.

"This is another important endorsement of our technology and our leading positioning in the fast growing market of Mobile IP," said Terje Andersen, CEO of Birdstep.
