Volvo Trucks Introduces an ECO 4 Engine

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, March 19, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Volvo Trucks is introducing a new engine that meets ECO 4, i.e. four points in Austria's ECO-point system.

It is the D12D, a 420 hp engine that is available on the Volvo FH12. This engine is quite similar to the standard Euro-3 version, but the level of nitrogen oxides is lower. This engine is required in order to receive four ECO-points. Volvo's (Nasdaq:VOLVY) standard Euro 3 engines receive five ECO-points. For the haulage company, this means that the truck will receive a permit to drive through Austria a greater number of times.

Volvo Trucks currently offers a complete program of diesel Euro 3 engines with an output range from 260 hp to 500 hp, with 9 or 12 litre displacements.

With the introduction of the D12D 420 hp engine with four ECO-points, the Volvo Truck Corporation marks its continuing efforts to reduce the emission values of exhaust gases.
