Volvo Buses has Received an Order for 340 Coaches in Mexico

GOTEBORG, Sweden, July 8, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Volvo Buses de Mexico has received an order for 340 first-class and luxury coaches in Mexico from one of the leading operators of intercity traffic- the ADO Group. The new deal is a confirmation of Volvo as one of the selected suppliers to ADO as they again chose Volvo for their premium services. The value of the order amounts to approximately USD 70 millions and the deliveries will take place during a fourteen-months period, beginning in October 2002. The majority of coaches are Volvo 9700, both two and three axles, based on the TX platform, and some Volvo three-axle Volvo 7550s.

The ADO Group is one of the leading operators providing regular to luxury services in one of the world's leading bus markets. More than 95% of all intercity passenger transportation in Mexico is done by bus or coach, which equals over 2,5 billions passengers per year. The ADO Group plays a very important role in the intercity passenger transportation in Mexico, mainly in the southern part of the country. The total operation covers a distance of nearly 700 million kilometres per year.

Since the establishment in 1998 of Volvo Buses de Mexico (formerly MASA), Mexico has developed into Volvo Buses' largest market as a result of a successful transfer of know-how and technology in a very short period of time. The products have been very well received by the operators and passengers in the market. This contract with ADO, together with recent orders, will further strengthen Volvo's position as the leading brand in the first-class and luxury segments.
