Posten: Postal Voting to Get Underway Wednesday

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 27, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Postal voting in Sweden gets underway on Wednesday, August 28. Orange signs in the shape of a hand will point the way to designated polling stations.

"Eligible voters may cast their ballots at any of the country's designated polling stations, regardless of their place of residence. A search function on Posten's Web site, www.posten.se, enables voters to locate the nearest polling station," said Inger Holmstrom, director of corporate communications, Posten. Voters can also call Posten's customer service department at 020 - 56 57 54.

In areas where the new service network has been rolled out, postal voting will primarily be held at Postal Centers, Swedish Cashier Service outlets, as well as most of Posten's partners that offer cashier service. In some areas, voters will be able to cast their ballots elsewhere, such as local libraries.

In areas where the new service network has not been rolled out, ballots may be cast at Post Offices and Post-in-Store locations.

"There have been concerns that the lion's share of this year's postal voting would take place at Sweden's grocery stores. I would therefore like to stress that almost all postal voting will be carried out in either Posten's own facilities or those of experienced partners who have undertaken this important task previously," said Inger Holmstrom.

Postal voting will be offered throughout the country. A total of 1,450 polling stations will be divided among 1,375 addresses - Swedish Cashier Service outlets and Postal Centers share the same address in some areas.

Sweden's 2,700 rural letter carriers will also provide postal votingservice.
