NIRA and Enea Cooperate on Safety-Enhancing Functions for Motor Vehicles

TABY, Sweden, Dec. 3, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- NIRA Dynamics AB and Enea Epact AB (Other OTC:EDTDF) (Stockholm:ENEA) have begun cooperating in order to offer automotive manufacturers safety solutions for motor vehicles in the future. This cooperation involves functions that warn the driver of slippery road conditions and low tire pressure.

Enea Epact and NIRA will jointly develop and market solutions for friction measurement and tire pressure monitoring for several automotive manufacturers. Enea Epact specializes in electronics and embedded systems and has carried out a number of development assignments for automotive manufacturers. NIRA develops and markets road friction indicators and tire pressure indicators. Friction measurement is used to warn the driver of slippery road conditions for the purpose of improving traffic safety. The system for monitoring tire pressure warns the driver when the air pressure in one or more of the tires is too low. Under-inflated tires are a common cause of accidents, since at high speed under-inflation can lead to the tire exploding. Under-inflated tires can also lengthen the vehicle's braking distance. The solutions that NIRA and Enea Epact will be offering jointly will thus contribute to reducing the number of traffic accidents.

"The market for safety-enhancing functions in motor vehicles is expanding greatly. We have noted this from our contacts with the customers we have," says Urban Forssell, Managing Director of NIRA Dynamics. "During the past year, we have almost doubled our workforce to be able to increase the pace of product development and cope with the anticipated demand for our products. This cooperation with Enea Epact makes it possible for us to step up that pace even further. We will be able to close more deals concurrently than if we had only our own personnel to work with," concluded Urban Forssell.

"The cooperation with NIRA is a step in strengthening our position as a supplier of advanced consultancy and development services. The automotive industry is a strategically important industry for Enea Epact," observed Patrik Holm, Managing Director of Enea Epact. "More and more parts of our motor vehicles are controlled today by electronics and microcomputers. Our competence in electronics and software for embedded systems is therefore highly applicable to applications in the automotive industry. That we are also able to contribute to saving lives on the road through this work quite obviously feels very good," concludes Patrik Holm.
