GuardedNet today announced that Paul McGowan, the former President and CEO at Red Zone Security Systems and sales executive at Internet Security Systems (ISS) (Nasdaq:ISSX), has been appointed vice president of field operations. In this role, McGowan will position the company's sales organization to take full advantage of the growing need for security event management software in the enterprise, service provider and government marketplaces.

"McGowan has tremendous experience in building and maintaining a world-class sales organization to sell at the enterprise level. He also has extensive background in selling network security, particularly in the verticals that need our solution the most, such as financial services, telecommunications and healthcare," said GuardedNet's president and CEO, Tom McNeight. "McGowan is the perfect fit and we are delighted that he has joined the GuardedNet team."

McGowan brings 20 years of industry expertise to GuardedNet. He joins the company from RedZone Security Systems, a security event management start-up he founded in 2001. Prior to that, McGowan held a number of senior executive positions with ISS. As vice president at ISS, he was responsible for sales, pre-sales, consulting, education, and administration of the company's largest region, and helped to grow the entire field sales and consulting organization from $12 million to more than $200 million in three years.

"It was an easy decision for me to join GuardedNet. I believe this company offers the first legitimate solution to a significant enterprise security problem, which is the need to effectively manage and utilize an overwhelming amount of security event data," said McGowan. "I am thrilled to be a part of this team and I have no doubt that we will succeed in capturing this market."

Before ISS, McGowan held a variety of sales and management positions with Sybase, SQL Financials and Dun & Bradstreet Software. McGowan began his career as an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York and later became a district manager for Automatic Data Processing and a budget director for The Associated Press.

McGowan earned a BA degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame. He serves as president of the JJM Foundation, a charitable foundation that raises money to support education programs for children.
