Skanska Secures Bridge Contract in Czech Republic Valued at SEK 418 M


STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 19, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Skanska (Other OTC:SKSBF) (Stockholm:SKAb) will construct three bridges in the Czech Republic for a total of SEK 418 M. The customer is the government road administration in the Czech Republic. The contract is included in order bookings in the first quarter of 2003.

The project involves three bridges on the D8 highway at the German border in western Czech Republic. The longest bridge is 523 meters and the two others are each 356 meters in length. The highest is 47 meters above the ground. The Czech business unit Skanska CZ is responsible for the bridge construction in a consortium that is also constructing a stretch of highway. The entire project is valued at SEK 565 M.

The project begins immediately and is scheduled to be completed in October 2005.

Skanska CZ is the largest construction company in the Czech Republic, with sales of about SEK 7 billion. The company is highly successful in infrastructure construction, which accounts for half of sales. Skanska CZ has favorable profitability and doubled its operating margin in 2002 to 5 percent compared with a year earlier.
