Riverhead Networks' DDoS Defense Now Available to all DE-CIX Carriers

HANNOVER, Germany, March 13, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Riverhead Networks(tm), a leading provider of Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) solutions that ensure business continuity for ISPs, data centers and large enterprises, today announced that its unique defense system against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks is now available to all carriers interconnected via the strategic DE-CIX Internet Exchange, a strategic hub for Germany's Internet traffic. Since the DE-CIX handles up to 80 percent of the German Internet traffic and serves virtually all of the major European carriers, the Riverhead deployment at DE-CIX makes DDoS protection a viable option for thousands of customers dependent on reliable Internet systems.

"As the Internet exchange carrier responsible for the successful transmission of Internet traffic across Germany, DE-CIX is well aware of the DDoS risk and has actively pursued a solution," said DE-CIX CEO Arnold Nipper. "Riverhead Networks provides our members with a unique defense against DDoS attacks, one that protects yet does not interfere with everyday business traffic. As more and more of our members choose to take advantage of this protection system, the overall network reliability will improve."

"Our close work with DE-CIX helped us better understand carrier needs and implement a scalable approach that benefits all its Internet Exchange customers," added Elad Shaviv, Riverhead's vice president of international sales. "Carriers can offer this to their own enterprise customers as a unique service, ensuring business continuity for their e-commerce and Web based systems."

The Riverhead Guard(tm) system uses patent-pending algorithms to automatically detect DDoS assaults and block only specific attack flows while ensuring an uninterrupted flow of legitimate traffic. Tests with carriers, enterprises and product labs have validated the Riverhead approach, with Riverhead systems successfully defending critical network servers against an array of DDoS attacks.

About Riverhead Networks

Riverhead's solutions defend networks against crippling DDoS attacks, securing Internet availability. By filtering out malicious traffic, the company's security systems ensure business continuity for ISPs, hosting centers and large enterprises, maintaining network and server availability for legitimate users.

Riverhead's patent-pending Multi-Verification Process(tm) (MVP) architecture automatically blocks attack packets and forwards real customer transactions, without relying on other network devices. "Dynamic diversion" enables Riverhead to redirect only traffic flowing towards a targeted resource through the Riverhead Guard to block malicious packets, maximizing scalability and reliability benefits.
