Riverhead Networks Inks Japanese Distribution Agreement

Rikei Corp., Leading Supplier of IT Technology, to Resell Riverhead Products

CUPERTINO, Calif., April 28, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Riverhead Networks(TM), a leading provider of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) solutions that ensure business continuity for ISPs, data centers and large enterprises, today announced that it has signed a distribution agreement with Rikei Corp., a leading supplier of information technology (IT) parts, components, products and systems. According to terms of the agreement, Rikei Corp. will sell and support Riverhead's DDoS detection and mitigation solutions, the Riverhead Detector(TM) and Riverhead Guard(TM), in Japan.

DDoS Attacks on the Rise

DDoS attacks, considered the Number One cybersecurity problem today, are designed to bring business to a standstill by flooding web sites with waves of malicious traffic, preventing legitimate traffic from getting through. The number of DDoS attacks continues to rise as hackers develop increasingly sophisticated methods to evade detection by disguising the sources of malicious traffic.

The Riverhead Detector and Riverhead Guard utilize sophisticated, patent-pending algorithms and technologies that identify even the most complex DDoS attacks, blocking malicious attack traffic without impacting legitimate business transactions. Based on a unique Multi-Verification Process(TM) (MVP) architecture, the Riverhead solutions apply unprecedented levels of filtering and analysis to suspicious traffic flows, identifying and removing bad packets while allowing "good" packets to pass, preserving business continuity.

"Our customers are always looking for newer, better ways to protect their businesses from malicious attacks," said Katsuei Aoyagi, president & CEO of Rikei Corp. "We studied all of the DDoS detection and protection tools and concluded that Riverhead and the MVP architecture offer the most complete, flexible and adaptable solution for protecting against all types of attacks, past, present and future. We are looking forward to working with them."

"We welcome the opportunity to partner with a recognized leader such as Rikei, who is well positioned in the service provider market in Japan," said Elad Shaviv, vice president of international sales at Riverhead. "Working together, we will address the critical need for Internet security in one of the leading broadband-connected markets."
