Teligent P90/E used in Phone-In to President Putin

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 30, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Successful acquisition lays foundation for Teligent in Russia and new orders in Spain and U.K.

In late September 2003 Teligent acquired Telspec's Network Service Division. The integration of the division is now reaching its final stages and Teligent has started to gain new businesses out of the acquisition.

"We were convinced when we made the acquisition that there would be synergies both within client installations, market positions, organisation and technology. Of course, I am happy to be able to announce these early achievements resulting from the acquisition," commented Ulf Lindsten, president and CEO of Teligent.

During this first period of time Teligent has supplied three Teligent P90/E systems in Russia as a direct result of the acquisition. The installations were first used in the "President's Hot Line" -- an opportunity for ordinary Russian people to talk directly to President Putin. The lines were open from 15th December for callers to record messages and questions for the president -- culminating in a live three- hour phone-in on Russian TV and radio on the 19th.

The three Teligent P90/E systems were installed in the southern Russian cities of Volgograd, Stavropol and Nalchik. Calls from these systems were used during the live programme.

Teligent's customer, JSC Southern Telecommunications Company ("STC"), is one of the 7 mega-regional telephone companies making up the Russian PTT. STC has one of the most modern telecoms networks in Russia and serves a region with a population of over 18 million with over 3 million telephone lines. The sale was made through Teligent's partner in Russia, Moscow-based 3AO "Akantis". Based on the success of previous installations with the acquired Telspec division, this project is the first Teligent P90/E sale in Russia.

Sergei Khartchenko, the Technical Director of STC commented, "The Teligent systems were delivered and installed very rapidly and fulfilled their purpose exactly. STC has selected Teligent as a strategic supplier of Intelligent Network systems and services and look forward to further projects together in the future."

In addition to the deliveries in Russia, Teligent has received further orders in Spain and U.K. as a direct result of the acquisition in September. BT Global Services has placed an order in Spain and BT in U.K. has continued with further developments and orders related to the important reference installation for Mass Calling.
