LOS ANGELES, Nov. 11, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) will highlight its public safety solutions at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) 2004 Annual Conference, Nov. 13 through 15 in Los Angeles.
The exposition will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Northrop Grumman will be located at booth number 837.
Successful technology integration related to emergency management services is one of the most critical issues facing state and local first responders. Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector will showcase applications and technologies that highlight state-of-the-art command-and-control centers. Communications, collaborative planning tools, wireless technology and justice applications are a sampling of Northrop Grumman's integrated public safety systems.
The CommandPoint(tm) Computer-Aided Dispatch system for public safety is a command-and-control system that enables communication center personnel to manage calls for service and resources. CommandPoint(tm) Mobile interfaces between the command center and field units, providing public safety personnel with easy access to data and field unit status. The CommandPoint(tm) Automated Field Reporting package enables law enforcement units to complete reports quickly and accurately from their mobile devices.
The exhibit will also include a demonstration highlighting Northrop Grumman's contract award with the Puget Sound, Wash. region to design and install a data warehouse system containing information from participating state and local law enforcement agencies that can be securely accessed using a standard Web browser. The Law Enforcement Information Exchange (LInX) project gives participating agencies the benefit of each other's collective investigative efforts, which can lead to easier identification and resolution of criminal or potential terrorist activity.
Northrop Grumman IT will also display the Virtual Integrated System of Systems Tool for Analysis (VIS2TA) and the wireless communications system MobileShield(tm). VIS2TA is a modeling and simulation system for homeland security and defense planning, training, exercise and crisis-management operations integrated around a geospatial visualization environment. MobileShield is a secure, high-speed, Internet protocol-based wireless solution that enables the convergence of data, voice and video onto one network.
Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems sector will demonstrate the Touch Table, a projection display set on a seven-foot-diagonal surface. The projection tabletop display facilitates viewing and manipulation of complex data, such as geographic information, that cannot readily be represented on a standard computer display. The Touch Table is designed to enhance collaboration and provide an intuitive interface to complex applications. Using only their hands, users can manipulate images and data displayed on the table.
On Sunday, November 14 at 12:30 p.m. in room 408B, Melissa Mason, project manager for Northrop Grumman IT, will facilitate a panel discussion on using wireless technology to enhance public information. The session will review a Northrop Grumman wireless local area network project with the Everett, Wash. Police Department to improve public safety communications. Part of the project included sponsoring a crime prevention vehicle equipped with the technology to increase communications to the community and local government during emergencies.
Northrop Grumman's public safety capabilities will be featured on two daily facility tours sponsored by the Los Angeles Police and Sheriff's Departments. Tours will take place November 15, 16 and 17, and registration will be held in the convention center's Kentia Hall at the Facility Tour booth. The Sheriff's Communications Center tour at 9:30 a.m. will take participants through the facility that serves as the main communications relay link in the Sheriff Department's communications systems. The Police Department Communications Center tour at 12:45 p.m. will guide visitors through the recently completed Metropolitan Dispatch Center, built by Northrop Grumman. The center is the communications support entity for public safety for the city of Los Angeles.
