TeliaSonera International Carrier Delivers IP Transit to JANET, the U.K. Education and Research Network and its 16 Million End-Users

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 10, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- UKERNA, the U.K.'s Education and Research Network Association, has selected TeliaSonera International Carrier to be one of its two IP Transit providers for the next two years, potentially extendable for five years.

JANET(a) is the network dedicated to the needs of education and research in the UK. It connects the UK's education and research organizations to each other, as well as to the rest of the world through links to the global Internet. The JANET network currently serves over 16 million end-users.

"TeliaSonera International Carrier was awarded the contract based on the quality of its global IP backbone, solid finances and strong focus on customer service," says Tim Kidd, UKERNA(a). "The excellent reputation that TeliaSonera International Carrier has with other National Research Education Networks across Europe was also a very important factor."

UKERNA will be using the TeliaSonera International Carrier IP network as a means of providing Internet access to the many users of the JANET network. "This is a very important win for us at TeliaSonera International Carrier," says Rene Timmermans, Head of Sales at TeliaSonera International Carrier. "We have proved that we are capable of satisfying the demanding long-term UKERNA requirements and the deal demonstrates how TeliaSonera International Carrier is a major player in the UK IP Transit marketplace."
