RENO, Nevada, March 7, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Battle Mountain Gold Exploration Corporation (OTCBB:BMGX) ("Battle Mountain") is pleased to announce the appointment of David Atkinson, (B.Comm, MBA) as V.P. Finance and Chief Financial Officer.
Mr. Atkinson has more than 15 years of experience in finance and banking, including over 10 years on Wall Street, and has significant experience in raising capital, executing mergers and acquisitions, and financing the growth of companies. Previous employers include Rothschild Inc., Jefferies & Company, and Harris Nesbitt Corp (BMO Financial Group), all based in New York.
Commenting on the appointment, Mark Kucher, Battle Mountain's Chairman and CEO, stated: "With our focus on royalties and cash flow, in addition to our increased joint venture activity within our exploration business, we feel that the addition of senior financial management to Battle Mountain is an important step in the Company's growth."
Mr. Atkinson's employment will commence upon the close of the previously announced purchase of IAMGOLD's gold royalty assets, which is expected to be completed by the end of March, 2006.
The Company would also like to announce the resignation of James McKay, Director and V.P. Corporate Development. Mr. McKay has left the Company to pursue a new opportunity and we wish him all the best for the future.
