Alternative Energy Sources Completes Final Zoning Step for Iowa Ethanol Plant

KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 1, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Kansas City-based Alternative Energy Sources Inc. (OTCBB:AENS) today announced that the Boone County (Iowa) Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Wednesday to approve rezoning of 625 acres for agricultural business use. AENS plans to build its proposed 110-million-gallon ethanol plant on the site near Ogden, Iowa.

The tract was rezoned from A-1 (agriculture) to A-2 (ag business), noted J.B. Voss, AENS's vice president of business development, who attended the meeting.

As part of the "Zoning Amendment Compliance Agreement," the board of supervisors requires AENS to upgrade 210th street from U.S. 169 to the plant entrance. In return, the agreement stipulates: "The county will support and participate with (AENS) in pursuing state funds for the project."

"Boone County is excited that AENS has chosen our community to locate their facility," said Mike O'Brien, Boone County supervisor. "With today's vote, we have achieved a major milestone in bringing economic development and high quality jobs to Boone County as well as propelling our agricultural economy forward."

Ogden Mayor Mark Trueblood stated, "The city of Ogden appreciates the supervisors' support. Their stamp of approval marks another major step in AENS' development of a $200 million plus ethanol plant. We're pleased with AENS' investment in the economic viability of Ogden and the entire Boone County area."

Robert Fisher, Boone County director of economic development, reported: "With the permitting process under way, local development officials along with the citizenry are excited about the immensity of the plans. Nothing comes close in the investment history of our county." He added, "Ogden citizens anticipate economic factors associated with the ethanol plant to have a major impact within the community. From groundbreaking in 2007 to completion in 2008, Boone County awaits the AENS project with great anticipation."

AENS plans to start construction on the plant by late spring and have it in operation by fall 2008.

AENS is developing "greenfield" sites, including constructing, owning and operating fuel-grade ethanol plants. For information: www.aensi.com.
