Buy.Com Introduces Green Product Ratings With EPEAT

The Internet Superstore Provides Options for Environmentally Conscious Consumers

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., April 24, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Buy.com(r) (www.buy.com) today announced that it has introduced EPEAT ratings of computers and monitors to the Buy.com website. The ratings will allow Buy.com customers to view, filter and purchase almost 1,000 products that have met EPEAT environmental criteria.

EPEAT is the Green Electronics Council's Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool -- a system developed to help purchasers evaluate, compare and select desktop computers, notebooks and monitors based on their environmental attributes. The EPEAT ratings are adapted from the IEEE 1680-2006 Standard for Environmental Assessment of Personal Computer Products. EPEAT evaluates 51 unique criteria to assess whether a product is eligible for one of three levels of EPEAT accreditation.

"Buy.com is home to millions of sophisticated and savvy customers and the EPEAT system represents another way in which we give our visitors important product information that helps them make more informed buying decisions," said Neel Grover, CEO and President of Buy.com. "Green product ratings are going to prove an increasingly important factor for computer and consumer electronics buyers, and Buy.com's partnership with the Green Electronics Council positions us to share the environmental assessment of these products with the most influential online consumers." Manufacturers already participating in the EPEAT program include Apple, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett Packard, Lenovo, NEC, Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony.

"We are thrilled that a leading retailer like Buy.com is using EPEAT to identify greener PC products," said Jeff Omelchuck, Director of the Green Electronics Council, the non-profit organization that manages and operates the EPEAT system. "In the past it has been very difficult for consumers to cut through the green washing to reliably identify greener electronics. EPEAT makes that simple. Retailers like Buy.com enable consumers to add their purchasing power to the $40 billion dollars the U.S. federal government puts behind EPEAT to create a market incentive for greener PC products."
