Arxan Appoints Dr. Mikhail J. Atallah as Chief Technology Officer

Distinguished Researcher and Educator Expands Executive Team

BETHESDA, MD--(Marketwire - June 21, 2007) - Arxan Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of IP protection solutions designed to prevent software piracy and tampering, today announced the appointment of Dr. Mikhail J. Atallah as chief technology officer (CTO).

Dr. Atallah co-founded Arxan in 2001, and brings more than 25 years of experience to his new role as CTO. He will be responsible for charting the company's technology strategy and sharing his considerable expertise and vision in intellectual property protection, while continuing to be a key participant in the company's research efforts. Specifically, Dr. Atallah will guide continued growth and innovation in Arxan's Guard™ technology to address pressing customer problems in protecting desktop and embedded software, DRM applications, and critical military program information.

"Since Arxan developed this IP-protection technology more than five years ago, market dynamics and hacker sophistication have rapidly evolved. In the commercial market, software is being pirated and tampered more than ever before, with an estimated $40 billion lost globally to illegal use according to IDC. In the defense arena, anti-tamper continues to be a DoD mandated critical program need. Continued R&D excellence to stay ahead of increasingly challenging threat vectors, such as virtualization, and the ability to meet stringent performance and reliability requirements, along with education -- particularly at the executive level -- is critical to preventing software piracy," said Dr. Atallah.

Arxan functions as a security partner for commercial companies, addressing chronic piracy through the continued innovation of its GuardIT™ solution. On the defense side, Arxan works closely with the DoD itself through R&D partnerships and aggressive research to maintain technological leadership in CPI protection through our EnforcIT™ solution.

"Dr. Atallah has a rare combination of outstanding mathematical and research abilities, and a keen understanding of business reality and strategic trends," said Mike Dager, CEO and chairman of Arxan Technologies. "He grasps the complexity of difficult problems, solves them in a powerful yet elegant manner, and has the ability to present solutions in a simple and accessible fashion. His contributions to our current and ongoing intellectual leadership in the IP protection space are invaluable, and we are excited to expand his role."

Dr. Atallah is a Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University. He joined the Computer Sciences Department at Purdue University immediately upon obtaining his Ph.D., and has been with Purdue since then. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1986, to Full Professor in 1989, and to Distinguished Professor in 2004. Dr. Atallah's current research interests are in information security. He received a Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation in 1985. A Fellow of the IEEE, he has served on the editorial boards of many journals, and was selected to serve on the Program Committees of many top conferences and workshops. Dr. Atallah was Keynote and Invited Speaker at many national and international meetings, and a speaker in the Distinguished Colloquium Series of many top Computer Science Departments. He was selected in 1999 as one of the best teachers in the history of Purdue University and included in Purdue's Book of Great Teachers, a permanent wall display of Purdue's best teachers past and present. Dr. Atallah, a key leader and member of Arxan's research division, is a co-inventor of more than ten patents.
