Connecticut's Mysterious 'Gas Men' are 'Revealed'

Generous Gesture of Handing Out $100 Bills At Gas Stations Makes National News

HARTFORD, Conn., June 19, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- For the past several weeks, two mysterious men walked into more than 20 gas stations all around Connecticut, walked up to motorists filling up their gas tanks and handed them $100 bills and a card that read "refueling our community -- The Gas Men."

This unexpected gesture of goodwill by two strangers flabbergasted state residents and received media attention nationwide -- from The Miami Herald to ABC News to the Associated Press.

Yesterday, the identities of the "Gas Men" were revealed: They are 96.5TIC morning show host Gary Craig and Rockville Bank's President and CEO William J. McGurk. They traveled the state in a Smart Car with the goal of "giving back" to Connecticut community, struggling with high gas prices like the rest of the nation.

Starting Monday morning, June 23, 96.5TIC and Rockville Bank will continue their efforts to help Connecticut residents facing soaring fuel prices:

 * 96.5TIC will give away gas to lucky listeners, three times a day
   on-the-air, and also donate to the winner's favorite charity;
 * People visiting any of the 21 Rockville Bank locations can
   register to win free gas cards; and
 * All winners in both the 96.5TIC and Rockville Bank contests will
   quality for free gas for one year. The winner will be announced in
   August. At that time, a donation also will be made to an overnight
   camp for Connecticut children from families who otherwise would
   not be able to afford it.
