Liner Yankelevitz Investigates Possible Claims Relating to Health Insurance Providers

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 12, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Liner Yankelevitz Sunshine & Regenstreif LLP ("LYS&R") is investigating the way in which health insurance carriers pay claims when members of the health insurance plans use medical providers who are not part of their network ("Out-of-Network") and potential violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 ("ERISA"). The investigation focuses on United Healthcare, Aetna, CIGNA, and Blue Shield ("Insurers").

LYS&R's investigation involves whether the Insurers may have breached their fiduciary duties of loyalty and prudence to the members of insurance plans offered by these Insurers. A breach may have occurred if the Insurers failed to pay benefits, by among other things, providing inadequate usual, customary, and reasonable ("UCR") reimbursement to its members for covered services and/or supplies provided by Out-of-Network Providers. A breach may also have occurred if the insurer failed to provide information about how it will pay for Out-of-Network Services, how it explained its benefits denials, and how it decided appeals from members who disagreed with its decisions.

If you are a member of an insurance plan offered by United Health Care, Aetna, or Blue Shield and would like to discuss this matter or provide information relevant to our investigation, you may contact any member of our team toll free at (866) 620-6722, or via e-mail at classaction@linerlaw.com.
