All the World's a Stage -- One Man Finds Himself in the Middle of a Conspiracy That Threatens National Security

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., May 1, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- What would you do when the fate of the nation is in your hands? Secret service agent Stuart Taylor lives a crappy life, but he gets the job done. He stops the crime -- using all means necessary. His estranged family thinks he's nothing but an irresponsible brawler, which is good since keeping their distance means that they are kept out of harm's way. But on the day of his forty-fourth birthday, an incident is about to put everyone he loves on the line. Witness how one man confronts a lethal conspiracy in author Charles Girsky's Smokescreen.

Stuart Taylor wakes up to a bad day when his mother calls him to greet him a 'happy birthday.' At forty-four, the middle-aged agent lives alone after his wife and family have left him years ago for his abusive behavior and, according to his daughter, for being a drunkard. But then his family cannot know the real nature of his job -- in fact, nobody can. After saving his daughter and her friends from some boys who were about to harass them on the street, Stuart suddenly finds himself in a new assignment just when he's decided to quit. The job involves the terminally ill FBI Director, Jake Levitt. Once he retires from this post, everyone is betting on the brilliant Ray Bradley to take Levitt's place, including the President. But his fate lies in the decision of a "certain" committee.

It is up to Stuart to find out who is determined to keep Bradley from being the next FBI Director. With a beautiful, determined congresswoman to protect and the safety of his children in mind, Stuart adroitly plays a deadly cat and mouse game with the most powerful forces in the world. The President himself is depending on him to keep affairs of the state under control, but can he stop the nation from crumbling when the security of everyone close to him is endangered?
