Tactical Communications Group Enhances Industry Leading Tactical Data Link Software Testing and Training Solutions With TCM 2010-01

New Release of Battlefield Operations Support System and Ground Tactical Data Link System Makes Link 16 Network Entry Easy and Greatly Improves User Testing and Training Capabilities

TEWKSBURY, MA--(Marketwire - June 30, 2010) -  Tactical Communications Group (TCG), the leading independent provider of tactical data link ("TDL") software solutions for military test, training and operational applications worldwide, today announced the availability of TCM 2010-01, a significant new software release containing major enhancements to both its Battlefield Operational Support System (BOSS™) -- the top-selling standards compliant TDL testing and simulation software solution on the market -- and its Ground Tactical Data Link System (GTS) -- the company's innovative training solution which allows operators to conduct Link 16 training in realistic warfighting scenarios. This latest release reduces the complexity of getting a Link 16 terminal into the network and greatly improves the testing and training capabilities for TCG customers.

BOSS is a low-cost stand-alone testing system that allows government test organizations, industry systems providers and military R&D organizations to reliably and consistently certify tactical data link implementations to assure interoperability and conformance with military standards. GTS is a complete, highly realistic tactical training and simulation system for terrestrial TDL networks. Using GTS, military air operators can now easily create live operational tactical data link networks from the ground, and provide live, virtual and constructive Link 16 training, enabling operators to "train as they fight," in an efficient and highly cost-effective manner.

Using TCG's new Terminal Control Wizard (TCW), users can now greatly simplify the complex task of getting a Link 16 terminal into the network. Using the TCW intuitive user interface, a user creates a secure, personalized data file specific to their terminal, allowing easy Link 16 network entry each time the terminal is turned on for test, training or operational purposes -- with just several clicks of a mouse. In addition, many other features were added in this new software release to reduce complexity and improve utility, enabling optimized TDL testing, training and operations.

"Our customers have always communicated the immense challenge in getting Link 16 terminals into a network -- it's a very complex, detailed process that takes time and perseverance. We wanted to address these concerns with our already-proven BOSS and GTS testing and training solutions," said Gary Zimmerman, director of Strategic Programs at TCG. "Now our significantly enhanced BOSS and GTS products can greatly reduce the time it takes to complete the complex task of Link 16 network entry -- the end result being our customers save time, increase efficiency and, ultimately, save money on their TDL testing and training requirements."

Additional BOSS and GTS Enhancements in the TCM 2010-01 New Software Release
In addition to the TCW, the latest BOSS and GTS releases include several other enhancements that offer greater ease of use, and improved testing and training capabilities. These include:

  • Track Templates: A user can now create a file and pre-set all the attributes of a network track, enabling faster, more efficient testing or training. This file can then be saved in the "Track Store" and selected with a simple right click of the mouse for greater efficiency. For example, files can be created for different air, ground, and surface tracks to allow a user to quickly add them to training or testing scenarios -- a feature critical when making time-sensitive decisions using simulation.

  • Simulation Preview Mode: Now an operator can review scenarios they have created for testing or training before going "live." Once the scenario is created, the user can preview the script to ensure it plays out as intended. There are numerous options available in preview mode to include time advance techniques such as skip to time, pause, rewind and replay. The operator may review a generated scenario at ¼, ½, normal, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X and 10X speed.

  • Populate Track Number from Map: The operator can now quickly create command and control (C2) orders from the tactical display, select the addressee and the objective with a click of a mouse. The detailed Link 16 command and control order is then automatically populated with all required data and presented to the operator for review. The user may change any of the auto-populated information or send the order as is to the network.

  • C2 & Non C2 Control Panel: BOSS and GTS now offer two new control panels to greatly simplify the task of generating command and control (C2) messages and the required responses along with monitoring the status of all C2 messages, which provides improved and simplified interface to assume and transfer fighter control.

  • DERGViewer Coloring: This latest enhancement improves the means to highlight and trace specific message traffic by specifying colors for messages to ease viewing and monitoring the DERGViewer.

  • Special Interest Track History: This new feature allows the operator to select a track for visual representation and data collection, collects all messages that reference the special interest object and writes them to a separate file for collection, greatly improving the processing and analysis of SI tracks. In "live fly" operations, selecting this new Special Interest feature on all aircraft will provide a complete tracking history on every aircraft, in case of an unexpected incident which may require search-and-rescue or recovery operations.
