OPNET Introduces Breakthrough Solution for Managing Application Performance in Citrix Environments

New Capability Provides Unprecedented End-to-End Visibility of Applications Deployed Using Citrix(R) Application Virtualization

BETHESDA, Md., Sept. 2, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:OPNT), a leading provider of solutions for application and network performance management, today announced a new solution for managing the performance of applications that run in a Citrix environment. This new module for OPNET's AppResponse Xpert® solution provides end-to-end visibility of user transactions that traverse a Citrix server, enabling faster, more accurate diagnosis of application performance problems. The announcement came at OPNETWORK, the company's annual technology conference being held this week in Washington, D.C., where OPNET is performing live demonstrations of the solution.

Citrix application virtualization technology enables Microsoft Windows applications to be virtualized and centralized, and delivered to users as a service. It is a prevalent technology for delivering applications due to its ability to vastly reduce administration costs, make more efficient use of IT resources, and improve the performance of enterprise applications over wide area and mobile networks. While powerful and beneficial, the Citrix environment can present new challenges to IT departments when troubleshooting application performance issues.

"OPNET is excited to introduce this new capability," stated P.J. Malloy, OPNET's Senior Vice President of R&D. "Many of OPNET's customers have implemented a Citrix server because of the clear benefits that it offers. However, troubleshooting application performance in a Citrix environment requires certain information to be correlated, which until now has been a painstaking manual, or even impossible process. Specifically, a key challenge for troubleshooters is being able to follow user Citrix sessions through the Citrix server and associate them with their corresponding back-end activity. This is crucial in order to be able to find the actual source of a performance problem which could lie in many different components. This correlation is exactly what our new Citrix performance management solution for AppResponse Xpert does."

Once this correlation is performed, AppResponse Xpert leverages its proven transaction monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities to analyze the overall user session. The solution is also able to collect front-end Citrix server performance statistics, as well as back-end application and database performance metrics in order to provide a holistic performance dashboard for Citrix server-hosted applications.

AppResponse Xpert uniquely combines end-user experience monitoring and in-depth analysis of the behavior and performance of the underlying network. It leverages the network's central role as a conduit for data and transactions to obtain complete visibility of IT services across the enterprise. Real-time on-board analytics determine which components in the application infrastructure are contributing most to delays.

Availability:

The new Citrix performance management module will be available in the fourth calendar quarter of 2011 from OPNET Technologies, and supports XenApp 5, 6, and 6.5.
