INTERACTIVE SOLUTIONS, INC. Provides Nation's Largest Telemedicine Rollout

ISI: Providing the State of Arkansas with Telemedicine Equipment

Memphis, TN, Sept. 7, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Interactive Solutions, Inc., along with 6 other telemedicine providers, recently competed to be awarded a contract with Arkansas E-Link. The contract winner would be tasked with supplying Arkansas healthcare providers and all state supported Universities and two year Community Colleges, with interactive telemedicine video equipment.

Once deployed, this telemedicine equipment allows for the enhancement and expansion of Arkansas E-Link’s 36 partner networks which include the 11 members of Arkansas Telehealth Oversight and Management (ATOM) Network and the 14 members of the Arkansas Research and the Education Optical Networks (ARE-ON). These networks are aimed to enhance health care delivery, higher education, public safety, research and the citizens of Arkansas.

There are several benefits this equipment will have for Arkansas residents. Rural and underserved regions of the state will now have access to specialized medical care enabling physician consults and follow-ups, emergency room to specialty clinician consults, and emergency intensive care unit services. Rural Health Care providers and clinics will be able to access other health care providers to share patient records, access electronic medical records, and be able to transmit and store images via picture archiving and communication systems (PACs) technologies.

Within education and research, the equipment will allow for continuing education and enhanced public education offerings. The video conferencing features will allow for further collaboration with research experts around the world, as well as, in other facilities across the state.

To date, this project will be the largest telemedicine roll-out in the United States, The project will allow for video conferencing and telemedicine consults between nearly 474 end-points across the state.

ISI’s winning solution was created from information amongst their current telemedicine partners gathered over the past 13 years. Through this time ISI learned that the technology must be functioning properly to provide consults that are identical to face-to-face visits. To ensure the equipment would be operational for all consults, ISI developed built in redundancy systems, that allow video calls to be made, even if there are errors with the video conferencing units themselves. ISI also developed a system that can be fully managed through a far-site control help desk, which is alerted if there is an incorrect setting or other problems detected on the telemedicine units.
