CompuMed, Inc. and Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation Team Up for "Know Your Heart" Student Cardiac Screening Days

Event At St. Lucie West Centennial High School Offers ECG Screenings September 9-10

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CompuMed, Inc. (Pink Sheets:CMPD) (www.compumed.net), a telemedicine and medical informatics company, is working with the Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation to provide electrocardiogram (ECG) screenings with telemedicine over-reads by pediatric cardiologists to students and student athletes. During "Know Your Heart" days, screenings will be held September 9-10 at the St. Lucie West Centennial High School, 1485 Southwest Cashmere Boulevard, Port St. Lucie, Florida. The screenings are open to children and young adults of all ages, including the general public. To register and select a time, call (772) 215-1912.  A $20 reduced rate, to cover administrative costs, will be charged for each test although programs are available for those who can not afford the fee. Event hours are Friday from noon to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm.

"The Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation has done so much to help save the lives of children in Florida. With the 'Know Your Heart' days, we are hoping together to bring better health to children of all ages and help inform students and young athletes about cardiac health," said Maurizio Vecchione, CEO of CompuMed.

CompuMed's telemedicine enhanced ECG screening allows pediatric cardiologists to supplement the computerized interpretation obtained by the ECG machine with their own over-reads. It's often difficult and costly to see a pediatric cardiologist to interpret a test, but all children screened will receive a pediatric cardiologist over-read of their tests in addition to the ECG report.

The Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation was founded in December 2003 by parents Ramon and Cheryl Lalloo after losing their daughter Jessica to sudden cardiac arrest while she was cheerleading. The Foundation created in her honor is working to prevent such tragedies.

While ECG tests can not detect all heart abnormalities, the combination of an ECG test with a pediatric cardiologist over-read has been shown effective in identifying some heart ailments. "Our hope is to make an ECG test and an expert pediatric cardiologist over-read available to everyone who wishes to be screened as part of our vision to screen every student for heart defects," said Lalloo.

"We'd focused successful efforts in getting defibrillators in all schools in Florida, but we realize it would be fantastic to find the kids with heart problems before they need a defibrillator. With our 'Know Your Heart' days, we are beginning to deliver that vision to the heart of our community," said Lalloo.

The Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation

The Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation was formed in Dec. 2003, co-founded by Ramon & Cheryl Lalloo, after the loss of their daughter Jessica. On Oct. 2nd 2003, while taking a break during cheerleading practice, Jessica went into Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Although CPR was performed, they were unable to resuscitate her. Jessica had numerous sports physicals and was never diagnosed with any heart conditions. It was discovered that Jessica had an undiagnosed heart condition called Mitral Valve Prolapse. Since then The Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation have been working with local school boards to provide A.E.D's to the schools, and develop training programs for their faculty. The Foundation has directly donated over 60 defibrillators to local schools and parks. The Foundation has also participated in the deployment of hundreds of defibrillators in the State of Florida. In addition, the Foundation has provided CPR/AED training for hundreds of faculty members and to the general public. In 2006, in a joint effort with the American Heart Association, the Foundation successfully lobbied to have a bill passed, requiring all High Schools, in the State of Florida, which participate in an athletic program, to have at least one defibrillator on the premises. In 2007 The Foundation received the "Jefferson Award" for public service. The Foundation is committed in taking progressive steps to reduce the risk of losing our children unnecessarily to Sudden Cardiac Arrest. More info at www.jessicaclinton.org
