Canyon Acres Embraces a New Future

Collaboration Champions the Most Vulnerable Children and Families in Orange County

ORANGE, Calif., March 14, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canyon Acres Children and Family Services, a Southern California nonprofit that provides homes, care, treatment and supportive services for abused, neglected and emotionally troubled children and their families, today announced a merger with Kinship Center and Seneca Center, two respected California child and family nonprofits. As "Seneca Family of Agencies," the three organizations will bring comprehensive services to children and families in Orange County and statewide.

Canyon Acres, Kinship Center and Seneca Center have known and trusted each other and worked together for 20 years. Founded in 1985, Seneca Center for Children and Families is a leading innovator in the field of community, school, and family-based service options for severely emotionally troubled children and their families. Since 1984, Kinship Center has helped build and strengthen families for thousands of children through family-centered education, training, and tools for success in dealing with the complex issues surrounding adoption, foster care, and kinship care.

Canyon Acres Children and Family Services has a 31-year history of serving children throughout Southern California, providing the highest level of care and therapeutic treatment to children who suffer from a variety of emotional and psychological disorders. The joining of these three effective organizations and their shared mission as Seneca Family of Agencies creates one of the most comprehensive service systems for children in California.

"We're looking forward to Canyon Acres' next chapter in this community," said Gordon MacLean, who served as Chairman of Canyon Acres' Board of Directors through the merger planning and implementation process in the past year. "In the current economic climate, it has become increasingly clear that one organization cannot address all the needs facing our communities, and that strategic collaboration is the only way to provide the full array of services that children need to heal and thrive. We believe this merger will strengthen regional programs and services. And, we are pleased that many of our board members will continue their support and involvement as we move into this next phase."

Children and families will continue to receive services at the Canyon Acres Ranch Children's Treatment Center in Anaheim Hills and also at the Kinship Center program facility in Tustin, which will serve as the administrative center. "By being part of a statewide integrated continuum of services that uniquely caters to the needs of children with complex challenges, we will bring the best possible care and services to children in Orange County," said MacLean.
