Roosevelt Veterinary Center Offers Brewster Pet Grooming Services

BREWSTER, N.Y., May 1, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Allison Glassman of the Roosevelt Veterinary Center offers pet grooming services as part of the practice's total commitment to ensuring overall pet health and happiness. The veterinarian maintains that paying proper attention to grooming is an integral component of a pet's wellness plan. Regular grooming by a pet care professional not only maintains a pet's appearance, it can also serve as an aid in preventing serious health problems. Services provided at the Center by Patty Watt, a professionally trained pet groomer, include bathing, trimming, shaving, nail clipping and flea baths.

Regular bathing with a medicated shampoo is recommended by the veterinarian to prevent drying, flaking, scratching and the buildup of skin oils. If a pet's hair becomes tangled or matted, that can lead to lesions and tearing of the skin. Hair that is not trimmed around the face, paws and hind area can accumulate dirt or bacteria and become a breeding ground for disease. Hair inside a pet's ears can allow wax to build up, leading to infections. A pet's nails need to be trimmed regularly so they do not become overgrown and cause pain to the pet. Ms. Watt also checks for any signs of tooth decay, skin infection, or flea infestation during her grooming and alerts the veterinarian to any issue that may require further medical attention.

Commenting on including grooming as part of the services available at the pet hospital in Brewster, Dr. Glassman said, "We're passionate about the health of the pets in our community. As a veterinarian I get to see the unfortunate effects of poor pet grooming when pet owners brings pets to me who are bleeding from poor skin care or have problems walking because of overgrown nails. I think preventing problems is just as important as treating them so that's why I decided to make dog and cat grooming part of our full-service approach to pet health."

To introduce new patients to its grooming services, the pet hospital has a coupon on its website for a free nail trim. Pet healthcare products carried by the Center include heartworm and intestinal parasite prevention, flea and tick preventative, joint support, and nutrient and antioxidant supplements for dogs and cats with chronic diseases and cancer.

Other services available include annual pet wellcare examinations, dental care, breed-appropriate vaccinations, emergency vet services, feline boarding and puppy training classes. The center also offers low-cost spay and neuter services every Thursday as a service to the community.
