PROVIDENCE, R.I., Sept. 6, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Gilbane is proud to announce Pamela House, a senior accountant with Gilbane Building Company, has received the Crystal Achievement Award from the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). Pam is an active member of NAWIC who strives to enhance the success of women in construction and to promote Gilbane's role in engaging and attracting women to the field.

"Pam has been a steadfast leader in our company's commitment to encouraging women to join the construction field," said Bill Gilbane, Jr., president and COO. "Our workforce, like our communities, is changing rapidly and it's exciting to see Gilbane employees at the forefront of this change. Pam's Crystal Achievement honor is well-deserved."

Pam's commitment to the National Association of Women in Construction spans close to 20 years and includes leadership roles of Membership Chairperson, National Convention Delegate, Board of Directors, and Gilbane's liaison to NAWIC's national office, among others. She is a strong advocate for minority and women representation on construction projects and has organized many events during her career to maximize opportunities for MBE/WBE participation.

"We really have come so far in our evolution from when I started in construction," remarked Pam. "Although construction is still a predominately male profession, we are making great strides in encouraging young people, particularly women, to get involved. NAWIC has been a leader in that regard."

Pam is a 30-year veteran of Gilbane and has served on the company's Diversity Council for most of that time. In addition to her professional role within Gilbane, Pam has been active in the YWCA of Greater Rhode Island; League of Women Voters of Pawtucket; Rhode Island Special Olympics; and Rebuilding Together.
