Las Vegas Chiropractor Encourages Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression for Pain Management

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 30, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Benjamin S. Lurie, who directs The Neck and Back Clinics throughout the city, says that his patients have reported significant, long-term pain relief from non-surgical spinal decompression treatments. The Las Vegas chiropractor says that this non-invasive treatment, which is administered in 30-minute sessions over the course of a few weeks, has been instrumental in providing drug-free pain management for many sports and car accident injury patients suffering from severe neck and back pain. Dr. Lurie adds that in some cases, patients considering back surgery were able to avoid it altogether because of these spinal decompression treatments.

Dr. Lurie explains that spinal decompression has helped patients who have sustained herniated disks due to an accident of some kind. "When a person suffers a car accident injury, sports injury, work injury, slip and falls or lifting mishaps around the home, this can affect the alignment of the spine and cause the vertebrae to compress the cartilaginous disks in between. These disks are what make the spine flexible. When they are injured, they can pinch nerves causing back and neck pain. During a decompression treatment, the patient lies on a computer-guided traction table that moves in positions that relieve pressure from the disks, and therefore the nerves."

Dr. Lurie continues to explain that spinal decompression treatments, if continued over a course of several weeks or months, can help some patients avoid surgery. He says that during treatment, injured disks are gently stretched and released, causing a vacuum effect inside the disks. According to the Las Vegas chiropractor, this improves circulation to heal the disks while reshaping them back into their pre-injury state. He says that while some patients experience dramatic pain relief even during the first session, most find it a successful long-term pain management and rehabilitation option.

According to Dr. Lurie, several types of patients may be good candidates for spinal decompression. He says he regularly recommends it for car accident injury patients who have suffered whiplash and for certain types of sports injuries and workers compensation injuries affecting the spine. He says that even if patients do undergo back surgery, decompression has also helped some patients during their recovery time.

Dr. Lurie adds, "If you have been told you need back surgery—and you may—try spinal decompression first. If we can help heal and realign the spine so that the problem goes away without painkillers or surgery, we've just saved you a lot of extra suffering and expense. It's definitely worth a try."
