Why is this Significant?
The examination, which standardizes and validates the effectiveness of the process supporting CDS' eDiscovery Hosting has implications for the standards and consistency of its operations, design, and reporting--all critical assurances for eDiscovery clients. Most importantly, this examination is specific to a core offering, eDiscovery Hosting Services.
"SSAE" is the Statement for Standards for Attestation Engagements. "SOC 1" reports specifically on the controls of a service organization. "Type 2" examinations differ from Type 1 in that they include and expand on the operating effectiveness of controls, not just management's description of a service organization's systems and design. SSAE 16 SOC1 replaced the former standards report, SAS 70 in 2011.
