North Penn School District Leverages EnerNOC Software to Unlock Savings, Save Power on Earth Day

EfficiencySMART(TM) Insight and DemandSMART(TM) Software Helps Prevent Cuts, Educates Students about Energy Consumption

BOSTON, April 22, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EnerNOC, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENOC), a leading provider of energy intelligence software, today announced that North Penn School District (NPSD) in Montgomery County, Penn., will "PowerSave for Earth Day" as part of its participation in the PowerSave Schools (PSS) program with the Alliance to Save Energy. Using data accessed through EnerNOC's EfficiencySMART™ Insight and DemandSMART™ applications, NPSD will engage and educate students and staff in energy conservation and efficiency.

This Earth Day initiative comes on the heels of significant savings already achieved by the school district. Using EnerNOC software, NPSD identified savings of approximately $895,000 (30%) over the past year, and an electricity reduction of 3,909,459 kWh (20%), all without capital investment. The school district was also able to keep several educational programs from the chopping block, thanks to the savings from becoming more energy efficient. Total savings was equivalent to 21 entry-level teachers. Going forward, NPSD plans to use EfficiencySMART Insight to identify further savings through enhanced data access and visibility of energy use at additional buildings.

"We're thrilled to see North Penn School District leverage their real-time meter data not only to save energy, but also as an educational tool to teach the importance of smart energy consumption," said Gregg Dixon, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales at EnerNOC. "With comprehensive access to their real-time energy data through applications like EfficiencySMART Insight, our customers can make smarter decisions, which can be especially important when identified savings mean more money for student resources."

PSS is a program currently operating in over 80 schools in Southern California, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, and empowers students and administrators with tools to make significant energy efficiency changes. Activities like teaching in the dark, serving a cold lunch in the cafeteria without use of kitchen appliances, and holding classes outdoors give students a new appreciation for the energy needed to power their schools. High school students will watch energy data on projectors as sections of the school turn off lights so students can immediately see the effect of energy reductions. This activity will be held 9th period between 1:40 pm and 2:20 pm ET and can be accessed through www.npenn.org.

"We've achieved significant energy savings through shut-downs during holidays, summers, nights, and weekends," said Thomas Schneider, energy and operational efficiencies manager of North Penn School District. "Engaging everyone in the process – students and staff included – ensures that everyone is looking out for new ways to save even more, and keeps us accountable to continue delivering against our energy efficiency goals."
