Military and Veterans Discount Center Launches Mobile Site in Response to Member Survey Results

Survey Shows 68 Percent of Vets Say They Have Been Denied Published Discounts

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - May 7, 2013) - Addressing recent member survey responses indicating that 68 percent of veterans and active military service members have been denied when requesting published discounts, the Military and Veterans Discount Center (MVDC) recently launched a mobile version of its popular website, www.militaryandveteransdiscounts.com. The largest online aggregator of discounts available exclusively to both active duty and military veterans and their families, the MVDC mobile site will make it easier for their military service verified members to take advantage of the discounts offered by businesses across the country.

Over 1,000 MVDC members responded to a recent survey, with the following results*:

  • 43 percent of members indicated that they always ask for a military or veterans discount
  • 42 percent indicated that they only ask for a discount when they know one is offered
  • 68 percent of members indicated that they have been denied a military or veterans discount
  • 97 percent of responders said that they would patronize a business more if it offered military or veterans discounts

"We want to eliminate the awkwardness our veterans face when asking for a discount from businesses they regularly patronize," said MVDC founder Terrence Thomas. "The new MVDC mobile site will give our members the confidence in knowing that a business honors military and veteran discounts. Having convenient access to local discounts right on their smartphone, will allow our members to more easily take advantage of the discounts that so many businesses offer as a way of saying 'thank you' for their service."

The MVDC site currently features more than 310,000 discounts offered to active duty members of the military, veterans, spouses and retirees. With the addition of the mobile site, discounts are now available on demand and on the one thing no one leaves home without -- their smartphone. Discounts range from local and national franchise restaurants to travel, education, insurance, cell phone service, child care, beauty and personal services, automotive, entertainment and more. All discounts are easily and clearly organized by category, location and eligibility.

"The mission of the Military and Veterans Discount Center is to promote the benefits of military service -- both past and present -- and provide a method for local and national businesses to meaningfully show their appreciation for our nation's heroes," said Thomas. "Since Veterans Day 2012, more than half a million military personnel and veterans have visited MVDC and we look forward to making the service even more user-friendly with the addition of the mobile app."

In addition to providing a one-stop-shop for discounts offered to military and veterans, MVDC provides businesses with peace of mind in knowing that their discounts are not being abused. Every user of MVDC looking to access discounts has the option to be verified through Troop ID. Troop ID is the leading provider of online military service verification and this service ensures that the discounts and benefits intended for military personnel and veterans are being used by them.

MVDC's new mobile site will automatically load when it detects the site is being accessed from a mobile device. Designed with geo-location services built in, the MVDC mobile site will automatically detect where the user is, in order to provide the best local discounts from both small businesses and national companies.

"We hope our website and mobile site will eliminate military and veteran discount confusion and finally enable businesses to express their gratitude to our nation's heroes. As a second generation veteran, I am confident that this gratitude will be repaid in customer loyalty by our veteran community," added Thomas.

*1,049 MVDC members responded to the survey, distributed by MVDC via email and Facebook. The survey responses were collected and analyzed using the online survey software PollDaddy.com.
