RHR International eBooks Series Reveals the Hidden World of the CEO(TM)

CHICAGO, Sept. 17, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- What really makes a chief executive officer tick? Despite the many fine books and articles that define the talents and skills needed to succeed in the office, the answer to this question remains elusive. Little time and attention has been given to penetrating the myths and headlines to uncover the personal motivations that propel someone to pursue a path to the corner office and how those drivers might change and evolve with experience.

A new eBook series by RHR International is designed to provide a uniquely different view of the World of the CEO(TM), a world that remained hidden and unexplored until now. Areas covered include what drives an individual to seek the position in the first place, why placing trust in others and earning trust changes once in the role, how patience and timing are refined with experience, and when instinct becomes a senior leader's most valuable data point.

In developing this series, RHR International sought insights from nine exceptional past and present CEOs. The panel includes:

  • Jim Hackett, CEO, Steelcase, Inc.
  • John Hanson, former CEO, and current non-executive chairman, Joy Global, Inc.
  • Mike Long, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Arrow Electronics
  • Denise Morrison, President and CEO, Campbell Soup Company
  • Clarence Otis, CEO, Darden Corporation
  • Rupert Pearce, CEO, Inmarsat
  • John Rowe, Chairman and CEO (retired), Exelon Corporation
  • Tarek Sherif, Chairman and CEO, Medidata
  • Herb Sklenar, Chairman and CEO (retired), Vulcan Materials Company

Why Do It?

There's no question that CEOs are some of the most ambitious, goal-oriented individuals on the planet. But let's face it, it's a demanding job with all the accountability one could ever want. All eyes are on the leader to make the right decisions and, at the end of the day, be accountable for the performance of the entire organization. So why would someone want to assume all that responsibility and pressure? While title, money and benefits obviously have their attraction, that's not what compels a select few to become the top leader in an organization. For them, there's a greater awareness that drives them to create meaningful value to themselves and society beyond the trappings of the office. Our panel of leaders shares their perspectives in the first of our eBook offerings, "The Real Why."

"Our intent is to bring unique aspects of the CEO's world to light for the first time and give senior managers and leaders a fresh perspective rooted in experience," said Dr. Thomas J. Saporito, Chairman and CEO of RHR International. "It is our hope that some of you will see your own reflection in this series and confirm what you already may be experiencing on the job."
