CONCORD, Calif., Sept. 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Of all the lessons that children will learn in this new school year, there is none more important than respect for the environment. Concord Disposal Service, in partnership with Mt. Diablo Recycling, is coming to classrooms across the Mt. Diablo Unified School District with an inspiring free academic recycling program throughout the 2013-2014 academic year.
Concord Disposal Service--a subsidiary of Garaventa Enterprises and a leading provider of waste management services and green and sustainable business practices—will educate K-12 students with its new 5Rs on-site school program. Each free, California Standards compliant classroom program includes grade-appropriate activities focused on the tenants of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover and Respect the Earth. Grades K-2 can also request a visit from Mt. Diablo's mascot, "The Recycling Guy."

In addition to the on-site education program, Concord Disposal Service provides free recycling services to all Concord school locations, and can work directly with schools to help improve existing recycling programs.
For an even more hands-on experience, school groups can come to Mt. Diablo Recycling Center's Pittsburg, Calif. facility. Students will get a tour of the 90,000-square-foot center, one of the largest and most efficient recycling facilities in Northern California, and see Mt. Diablo's "Big Blue" recycling machine in action. The tour also includes interactive games and a question and answer session.
