First Ever Mt. Diablo Recycling Contest Will Reward Contra Costa County Kids of All Ages for Their Recycling Behavior

Winners to Receive College Funds at Earth Day Event

PITTSBURG, Calif., Jan. 15, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In an effort to encourage the youth of Contra Costa County to share their recycling knowledge and inspire the greater community to increase their recycling behavior, Mt. Diablo Recycling (a division of recycling and resource recovery company Garaventa Enterprises) is launching its first ever Recycling Contest for elementary, middle school and high school students.

Each contest entrant is being asked to answer the question, "How are you encouraging your family, friends and community to recycle?" by drawing a picture, writing an essay, or creating a video, depending on their age. Entry forms and full instructions for each age group can be found on the Mt. Diablo Recycling website: http://www.mtdiablorecycling.com/RecyclingContest.aspx

"There is no better way to influence the entire community about the importance of recycling than to educate and embolden our kids to share their knowledge," said Mt. Diablo Recycling's Community Relations and Public Outreach Manager Nicole Impagliazzo. "Small, daily steps that keep more and more items out of landfills will have a lasting effect on the health and sustainability of our neighborhoods. We are truly pleased to be honoring our youth recycling advocates through this inaugural contest with prizes that will help further their educational and recycling endeavors."

First, second and third place winners in each age category will be announced at Mt. Diablo Recycling's 2nd Annual Earth Day event on April 26, 2014 taking place at the Mt. Diablo Recycling Center, located at 1300 Loveridge Road in Pittsburg, Calif.

Cash prizes range from $50 to $500. Recipients will be chosen by a panel of community experts based on the applicant's creativity and clarity, and the overall effectiveness of the recycling project.

Completed entries with application form must be submitted via email to Irecyclethemost@Garaventaent.com by 5 p.m. on April 4, 2014.
