After a naming contest was held amongst the core riders in the industry, the ProFlow name received an overwhelming amount of support and enthusiasm gathering more than 200 entries – the winning entry submitted by Madison, Wisconsin-based flowboarder Ben Gastorf. "The sport of flowboarding is growing rapidly and being shaped by the existing flow community almost on a daily basis," explained Yong Yeh, chief executive officer of Pacific Surf Designs. "We wanted to draw upon this collection of personalities to help us come up with a name that captures both the excitement and soul of the sport while at the same time lessening the existing brand confusion brought up by our customers."
