Concert Adopts Aconex for 88 Scott Condominium Project

Aconex Platform Streamlines Tendering and Other Pre-Construction Processes

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - Sep 9, 2014) -  Aconex, provider of the #1 cloud solution to manage the world's largest construction and engineering projects, has been chosen by Concert, a Canada-based developer of residential, rental, senior living, commercial, and industrial properties, for the 88 Scott condominium project in Toronto, Canada. Concert has already successfully utilized Aconex during the pre-construction phase to manage information and processes, including tendering, and will continue using the platform throughout the construction phase. The project is expected to be completed in 2017.

Concert and Bird Construction, the general contractor on the project, chose Aconex as an alternative to traditional project management tools such as SharePoint and Excel. "Aconex opened our eyes to a better way of dealing with project collaboration and document management," said Joseph Grassia, senior project manager at Concert.

Aconex provides Concert with a neutral platform that gives project team members across different organizations immediate access to project information, correspondence and the most current version of documents, which are securely and permanently stored in the cloud.

"Aconex never forgets. The information is always accurate and always there," said John Price, project director at Bird Construction.

Improved Efficiency in Tendering

Thus far, Aconex has proved particularly helpful during the tender phase. All 53 tenders covering the entire four-year project were distributed simultaneously to 225 bidders.

"Never in 15 years have I been able to award an entire construction contract in one hit," said Grassia. "We could never have done that with traditional tools. And by distributing documents electronically, we saved significant costs for printing and courier services."

88 Scott is a mixed-use, 58-storey, 669-foot high rise that includes retail and commercial space on the lower floors and 523 apartment units above. Among the amenities are 24-hour concierge service, a game room, a gym, a movie theater, a party room, a roof deck, a sauna, a swimming pool, social and reading lounges, and a 46th/47th-floor sky lounge with a fireplace, bar, caterers' kitchen, and formal dining room.

To date, more than 11,000 specifications, contracts and other documents have been uploaded to Aconex. "Each document is given a date, document number and revision number, making it fast and easy to find information," said Price.

"We're very pleased to have been chosen by Concert, one of Canada's premier developers, for this high-profile project in downtown Toronto," said Frank Kopas, general manager of the Americas at Aconex. "We look forward to helping Concert successfully deliver the 88 Scott condominium and other projects."
