Daphne Oz Presents Living an AGE-Less Lifestyle at Morinda Event

Easy ways to enjoy healthy and delicious cooking

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Feb. 25, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Anyone who thinks they have to sacrifice great-tasting food in order to feel good and look great hasn't met Daphne Oz. The New York Times best-selling author, celebrity chef and co-host of ABC's hit lifestyle television series, "The Chew," knows all about how to make living well fun, easy and above all – delicious. Oz was the featured presenter at Morinda's recent International Leadership Conference in Los Angeles.

According to Oz, "Eating healthier is simply being mindful about the foods you eat, without depriving yourself of things you love. One example of this principle in practice is to embrace ingredients and cooking methods that limit the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), harmful compounds that form in the body when excess sugar and protein combine."

These ingredients and cooking methods are what Oz focused on during her presentation at Morinda's International Leadership Conference. Morinda's mission is to help people live younger, longer, not only by creating TruAge products that fight AGEs from the inside out, but also by encouraging AGE-less lifestyles - healthy lifestyles that manage AGE levels.

"As a healthy-living expert, Daphne Oz is a boundless source of easy tips for making health a priority and not an obsession. She is a living, breathing example of how easy and delicious it can be for anyone to achieve an AGE-less lifestyle while enjoying foods they love," says Shon Whitney, Morinda's vice president of marketing and sales. The following is a sampling of Oz's insights on leading a healthy lifestyle.

Try different cooking methods

Certain cooking methods that involve high heat, such as grilling, broiling, sautéing or browning, can increase the AGE content of the food you ingest, so be adventurous and try different techniques. Cooking methods that use water, such as poaching, stewing or steaming, can dramatically reduce AGEs in foods, yet make for succulent and flavorful meals. For meats, try using an acidic marinade with lemon, lime or tomatoes for a smart and delicious treat.

Focus on fresh foods

Opt for fresh rather than artificial ingredients. For example, choose bright, colorful fruits and vegetables such as blueberries, Cornelian cherries, cranberries, olives and kale. They're good for you for a variety of reasons, including the fact that they have natural antioxidants and other elements that can lower AGE levels. Fresh foods with high water content are also healthier, such as watermelon, cucumbers, celery and tomatoes, because they flush toxins out of the body.

Replace old ways with new

Eat fewer solid fats and more fish, legumes and grains. Instead of snacking on salty processed chips, munch on omega-3-rich walnuts. Avoid grabbing sugary, carbonated beverages and instead drink non-caffeinated liquids such as reduced fat milk or water. If you want a flavored beverage, try adding a slice of lime to your water.

By following Oz's advice on living a healthier, AGE-less lifestyle, you'll not only choose and prepare foods wisely, but you'll feel better and look great too. The following recipe offers an easy way to get started.

CITRUS MARINATED CHICKEN

Serves 6

Ingredients
• 6 chicken thighs, boneless, skin on
•    1/2 orange, juice and zest
•    1/2 grapefruit, juice and zest
•    4 cloves garlic, smashed
•    1/2 bunch parsley, torn
•    1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus more

Directions
1.    Combine the orange and grapefruit juice and zest, garlic and olive oil in a baking dish. Place the chicken in the dish and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
2.    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking to allow chicken to reach room temperature.
3.    Wipe excess marinade ingredients off the chicken and season on all sides with salt and pepper. Place the chicken thighs in an oven-safe vessel or on a baking sheet, skin-side up. Drizzle with olive oil.
4.    Bake until thighs are no longer pink at the bone and juices run clear, about 1 hour (165 F internal temperature).
