ETM Manufacturing Earns UL-Certification for Electrical Enclosures

Production of Custom Sheet Metal Boxes that Meet Industry Standards for Durability & Safety Available Now

Littleton, Mass., June 30, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ETM Manufacturing, one of the region's most-trusted sheet-metal manufacturers,  today announced that it has shipped its first UL-certified product: a custom-built electrical enclosure designed to meet NEMA 3R, UL-50 and UL-50E requirements for safety and durability.

In bringing this product to market, ETM's design and engineering team found that the locking mechanism specified by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation was not able to withstand the leak-test performed by UL. The ETM team identified several options for mitigating the issue, and working with the customer, built a solution, hand-carried the alternative to the UL test facility in San Jose, Calif. and ultimately secured the required certification.  As a result, ETM's customer, Yale Electric, was able to help its customer, a Massachusetts' electrical contractor working on a local utility project, meet the standards necessary to keep the project moving forward.

"In today's fast-paced construction business environment, we must find creative solutions to help our customers and separate ourselves from competition" said Paul Hutchinson general manager of Massachusetts-based Yale Electric. "Partnering with a local custom solutions manufacturer like ETM allows us to do just that; ETM understood what we needed and worked aggressively to find a solution."

With the UL-certification firmly in hand, ETM now offers an immediate solution to customers seeking to use UL-certified enclosures in a wide range of applications. The UL approval is for all enclosures that are 70"x48"x36" and smaller.  Larger enclosures can be approved for a small fee. Features include vents for air circulation, continuously welded seams and a handle that lock in both open and closed positions. Custom enclosures can be typically be produced and delivered in as little as 4 weeks.

"In this case, there was no choice but to use the lock required, regardless of performance against UL standards," said Rob Olney, president of ETM Manufacturing. "We saw the situation and the need to navigate the UL-certification process as an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to superior customer service and to gain valuable expertise for other customers."

ETM partners with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) whose products include large format printers, 3-D printers, food service machines and transport racks, laser cutting machines, retail displays, large-scale architecture forms and many more. Its sheet metal fabrication, sheet metal manufacturing, sheet metal assemblysheet metal polishing and buffing services are used  by start-ups and well-established companies alike, including Antenna International, PanelClaw and EMC2 Corporation.   A one-stop shop for New England OEMs, ETM's continued investment in people, process and equipment and a singular focus on providing high-volume, quick-turn and quality sheet metal solutions ensures the service customers require, at much higher quality and competitive total landed cost over low-cost country sources.
