The 2nd Annual Tecla Awards Nominations Kick Off With New Categories and Voting Process

Telemundo Joins as Official and Exclusive Media Partner of the 2016 Tecla Awards


MIAMI, Feb. 24, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hispanicize 2016 and DiMe Media announced today that nominations are officially open through March 7th for the 2nd Annual Tecla Awards. Presented in partnership with Telemundo, the 2nd Annual Tecla Awards (www.TeclaAwards.com) will be streamed live online for viewers worldwide on Thursday, April 7th, 2016 from downtown Miami.

Honoring excellence in U.S. Latino online video, blogging, media, marketing and those who create it, the 2nd Annual Tecla Awards will reflect the growing state of original Latino programming native to YouTube, Facebook, Vine, Instagram, live broadcasting, blogging and virtually all types of social media platforms.

To ensure the broadest participation by the online Latino content producing community, the official entry process has been streamlined.

Nominations are open and can be made at http://www.TeclaAwards.com and close 11:59 pm PT on Monday, March 7, 2016. The public is invited to nominate their favorite creators- including themselves- for any of the more than 20 themed categories.

New Tecla Awards categories include:

  • All-new awards including Best Latin Artist using Social Media and Most Admired Latino Celebrity on Social Media.
  • Three awards devoted to short-form video: Vine, Snapchat Story Teller and Instagram.
  • A television award recognizing the Best Broadcast or Cable Network Doing Social TV.
  • A “Creator of the Year” award that will be voted on by the public starting on March 7th.
  • Telemundo will be presenting for the first time ever, the Social Innovation Award at the Tecla Awards. This award honors an individual innovator whose work has explored new trends, showcased pioneering spirit and greatly impacted society.

The finalists are determined by a tally of the nominations that were submitted by the Teclas Nominations Academy and the public nominations process running through March 7th. The winners of the 2016 Tecla Awards will be determined by the Tecla Judges Academy comprised of a select group of leaders shaping the future of Latino social media, entertainment and marketing. They include creators, executives, network leaders and other experts in the online content development industry.

The inaugural 2015 Tecla Awards garnered millions of impressions and was a trending topic on Twitter. The two-hour live show featured some of the biggest names of multicultural YouTube and social media and included a musical performance by Chino y Nacho. The 2016 Tecla Awards will feature top online and broadcast talent to present awards including confirmed talents of popular Viner Lele Pons, YouTube Fashionistas La Clika and Alejandra Rodriguez of Styled by Ale, and Latino comedians Los Pichy Boys and David Lopez, and a performance from a top musical group to be announced next week.
