World class sustainability performance at Castellum

Sustainability efforts at Castellum, one of the largest Swedish real estate
companies listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, continue to be internationally
recognized – with two new prestigious awards. Further Castellum has been
selected as an index component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI),
which includes the companies in all industries in the world with best
performance in terms of sustainability.
This shows that Castellum sustains its world-class ranking”, says Filip Elland,
Sustainability Manager at the company. “We receive these awards for
demonstrating high quality sustainability action – and for maintaining a
transparent and open communication culture around everything we do.”

Castellum is now being awarded the two following international distinctions:

  ·  Global Sector Leader, handed out by GRESB (Global Real Estate
Sustainability Benchmark), an international organization which strengthens and
protects shareholders through assessing and enhancing sustainability efforts
made in the global real estate sector.
  ·  First Prize for sustainability reporting from EPRA (European Public Real
Estate Association), which works to improve standards and tranparency within the
real estate business. This ensures credibility and results in increased security
for investors.

Castellum has prioritized sustainability issues from the time the company was
created in the middle of the 90’s – not least from a social, corporate
responsibility standpoint. For example, the company has featured an
apprentice/internship program since 2012, wherein apprentices account for 4% of
staff, and three-quarters of these are offered employment after the internship
period.

Castellum operates the highest number of environmentally certified properties in
Sweden, and the company works with a far-sighted and wide scope, which covers
everything from energy-efficiency and reduced carbon-dioxide impact to waste
-disposal and water-usage issues. The corporation’s energy consumption has been
reduced by almost a third over the last ten years.

The Global Sector Leader award means that Castellum is ranked first in the world
within the office- and industrial-properties sector by GRESB, which carries out
a thorough global appraisal of sustainability activities in 700 major real
-estate corporations and funds.

The prize for Best Sustainability Reporting in Europe, EPRA Gold, stands as
recognition that Castellum delivers on promises, as well as maintaining clear
and accurate communication practices.

Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), owned by RobecoSAM, invites over 3,400
listed companies each year in different industries around the world to
participate in the survey. The companies with best sustainability performance
are qualified into this prestigious index, which was founded in 1999 in aim to
steer investors towards more sustainable investments.

“Social responsibility pays. We’re demonstrating for our stakeholders –
including tenants and investors – that Castellum’s systematic sustainability
efforts create value”, says Henrik Saxborn, Castellum CEO.
