Building Designers Stepping up in a 'Hot' BC Housing Market

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - June 13, 2017) - ASTTBC Building Designers (ASTTBC-BD) are emerging as professionals with the skills needed to address BC's red-hot housing market. The housing demand in much of BC brings special challenges for building officials, developers and homeowners. Building Designers provide and facilitate practical solutions for single-family homes and small building design with services such as: offering comprehensive design and construction drawings and coordinating building permits. The general public is not aware that non-architects design most houses in BC. In fact, one does not require an architect, in most cases, to design their dream home and a Building Designer can execute the process professionally, safely, reliably and at a reasonable cost.

Building officials are often bogged down with incomplete or hard to decipher permit drawings, and homeowners subsequently face costly delays before permits are issued and construction commences. Added to this are changing building codes and zoning bylaws. "Green builds" are becoming more common, as well as increasingly refined expectations and requirements of homeowners, makes finding and communicating with a competent builder often challenging. As a result, the DIY (Do It Yourselfers!) approach has become increasingly difficult, if not impossible for most homeowners.

ASTTBC certified and registered Building Designers provide knowledgeable and professional residential design services, with members available in all areas of BC. As registered members of ASTTBC, the 9th largest professional association in BC with over 10,000 registrants, the Registered Building Designer (RBD) and Certified Residential Designer (CRD) are ideally positioned to provide a solution for the homeowner looking for a house design and even evaluate contractors who are the best fit for the project.

"Proper planning, and allowing a sufficient timeline for completing your project, is paramount to a successful completion and can eliminate costly mistakes." Asserts Joe Rommel, Chair of the ASTTBC-BD Executive and Principal/Designer at Rommel Design Ltd. "ASTTBC Building Designers are able to support homeowners through that complex process."
