BioSolar’s Silicon Anode Additive Material Technology Featured at the 232nd Electrochemical Society Meeting

SANTA CLARITA, Calif., Nov. 07, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BioSolar, Inc. (OTCQB:BSRC)(“BioSolar” or the “Company”), a developer of breakthrough energy storage technology and materials, today announced that the Company’s innovative Silicon Nanocomposite anode material technology was presented at the 232nd Electrochemical Society Meeting held in National Harbor, MD during the week of October 1, 2017.

The poster presentation entitled, “Ionically Enhanced SixFex/Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3 Nanocomposite For High Performance Lithium-ion Batteries” was presented by Dr. Jong Soo Cho, a postdoctoral fellow with the North Carolina A&T State University technology team led by Prof. Sung Jin Cho who is internationally recognized in the field of lithium-ion battery development.

The Electrochemical Society is dedicated to advancing and practicing solid state & electrochemical science and technology. The Society holds meetings, publishes scientific papers, fosters training and education of scientists and engineers, and cooperates with other organizations to promote science and technology in the public's interest. As such, scientists, engineers and industry leaders come from around the world to attend this event.

BioSolar recently announced the development of an additive material made out of highly ionic silicon-lithium nanocomposites that improves the battery’s first cycle efficiency, capacity retention for long-term cycling, and power capability at different current rates. The Company believes that its proprietary additive has the potential to improve all types of silicon anode materials such as Si carbon composite, Si oxide type, and Si alloys.

"We are pleased to have Dr. Jong Soo Cho represent BioSolar and our collaborative technology efforts at this prestigious Electrochemical Society Meeting,” said Dr. David Lee, CEO of BioSolar. “Dr. Cho’s extensive knowledge and leadership in the field of micro-mechanical behavior during the charging and discharging in lithium-ion batteries has been instrumental to the development of our additive material technology that we believe will significantly improve performance of silicon anodes for next generation lithium-ion batteries.”

About BioSolar, Inc.

BioSolar is developing a breakthrough technology to increase the storage capacity, lower the cost and extend the life of lithium-ion batteries. A battery contains two major parts, a cathode and an anode, that function together as the positive and negative sides. BioSolar initially focused its development effort on high capacity cathode materials since most of today's Li-ion batteries are "cathode limited." With the goal of creating the company's next generation super battery technology, BioSolar is currently investigating high capacity anode materials recognizing the fact that the overall battery capacity is determined by combination of both cathode and anode. By integrating BioSolar's high capacity cathode or anode, battery manufacturers will be able to create a super lithium-ion battery that can double the range of a Tesla, power an iPhone for two days straight, or store daytime solar energy for nighttime use. Founded with the vision of developing breakthrough energy technologies, BioSolar's previous successes include the world's first UL approved bio-based back sheet for use in solar panels.
