Don’t Rely on Luck to Get Home Safely This St. Patrick’s Day - Plan Ahead For A Sober Ride

OAKVILLE, Ontario, March 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The green pints will be flowing this weekend in honour of St. Patrick’s Day. MADD Canada and Allstate Canada are asking everyone to keep safety in mind and plan ahead for a sober ride home.

“An impaired driving crash is the last thing anyone is thinking about when mapping out their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations,” said MADD Canada National President Patricia Hynes-Coates. “But that’s the very real risk if you get behind the wheel after drinking or consuming drugs. Rely on good planning and a sober driver, not luck, to get home safely.”

Crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs claim hundreds of lives and cause tens of thousands of injuries every year. These senseless tragedies can be prevented by:

  • Never driving impaired;
  • Never getting into a vehicle being operated by someone who’s impaired;
  • Calling 911 if you see a driver you suspect is impaired.

“When your St. Patrick’s Day celebration wraps up, are you travelling home with a safe and sober driver, or are you risking an impaired driving charge, a licence suspension, a fine or, worse, a crash that kills or injures someone,” asks Allstate Insurance Company of Canada President and CEO Ryan Michel. “The choice is easy; plan now for that sober ride home so you can enjoy the festivities without worry.”

Plan for safe and sober transportation this St. Patrick’s Day. Call a cab, arrange a designated driver, take public transit or check out Uber, MADD Canada’s Official Designated Driver App.
