Media Advisory: This weekend’s CN Tower Climb for WWF-Canada


TORONTO, April 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- This weekend, thousands of people will climb the 1,776 steps of Canada's tallest structure as part of WWF-Canada’s CN Tower Climb for Nature to help raise more than $1 million for wildlife conservation.

This year is WWF-Canada’s 28th climb, with more than 7,000 people registered. Megan Leslie, president and CEO of WWF-Canada, will be climbing with them for the first time after moving from Halifax this year.

When: Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8

Who:

  • Megan Leslie, WWF-Canada president and CEO and first-time climber
  • Aysia Maurice, Ontario track champ and last year’s fastest female climber is returning to defend her record of 12 minutes and 53.4 seconds
  • Tyler Kruschenske, world championship obstacle course racer and WWF’s fastest returning climber
  • Doug Dorsey, climbed the CN Tower 27 out of the 28 years WWF has held the event
  • Julian Backhouse, a grandfather who uses a wheelchair and is climbing for the fourth time with his four grandchildren
  • Corporate teams from YPO, IKEA Canada, Telus, Loblaw, Universal Music Canada, Mill Street Brewery, BGIS, Bentall Kennedy Canada, HP Canada, Menkes Developments Ltd., P&G Canada, PwC Canada, Toyota Canada and The Printing House
  • +7,000 other climbers

 

Saturday, April 7 – Classic Climb (At capacity, registrations closed)

  • 5:30 a.m.: Media desk opens at base of CN Tower
  • 6 a.m.: Public climbers start up the tower
  • 10 a.m.: Last climber enters the tower
  • 11 a.m.: Last of the climbers should have cleared the tower by now

 

Sunday, April 8 – Premium Climb and Elite Climb Challenge: Open for more climbers

  • 5:30 a.m.: Media desk opens at the base of CN Tower
  • 7:00a.m.: Elite Climb
    • Competitive climbers vie for the fastest time up the CN Tower in under 15 minutes.
    • 7:30 – 10 a.m.: Public climbers and team climbers start up the tower
  • 7:45 a.m. Megan Leslie to announce fastest male and female climbers at MTCC, North Building, Hall C
  • 8:15 a.m. WWF-Canada head Megan Leslie climbs the CN Tower for the first time
    • Available for interviews before and after climb; photo-ops entering stairwell and at finish line. Please contact WWF to arrange interview in advance.
  • 10 a.m.: Last climber enters the tower.
  • 11 a.m.: Last of the climbers should have cleared the tower by now.

Please note that all media will be required to sign security waiver forms to ascend the CN Tower by elevator. Forms will be available at the media desk in the base of the tower.
