Oxford Performance Materials Announces Launch of OXPEKK®-SC

Proprietary Thin Forming Technology Extends the Benefits of PEKK Application via Solution Casting

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn., April 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Oxford Performance Materials, Inc. (OPM), a leader in advanced materials science and high performance additive manufacturing (HPAM™), today announced the launch of OXPEKK®-SC (Solution Casting).

OXPEKK-SC is a proprietary material developed by OPM for creating water-based solution castable PEKK into ultra-thin films.  When formed, the films have the full mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of PEKK.

OPM has been developing poly-ether-ketone-ketone (PEKK) process and application technologies exclusively since its founding in 2000.  Target applications for the patent pending OXPEKK-SC film forming technology include sizing on fibers such as glass and carbon, insulating coatings on conductors, wear coating on metallic substrates, and a wide range of chemical resistant coatings.  The coating can be applied on any substrate that is not adversely affected by a thermal process cycle of 340C.  The OXPEKK-SC film tenaciously bonds to most substrates - including metallic, glass, carbon, ceramic & carbon - and can be spray applied or dipped with a minimum thickness of 100nm.

“PAEK polymers have long been applied as coating to various substrates.  However, the market has long desired a water-based solution casting technology that involves simple processing but delivers ultra-thin films,” said Scott DeFelice, CEO of Oxford Performance Materials.  “OXPEKK-SC meets this challenge head-on, and has been in development with key OPM development partners for some time.  The product is now ready for immediate introduction into the broader market.”

DeFelice continued, “Our initial focus had been to use this technology as functionalizing and process aid for fibers, however we see substantial opportunities in the energy sector, chemical process industries and semiconductor sectors.”
