A report tracking the world's progress on renewable energy, energy efficiency, access to electricity, and clean cooking will be released on May 2.
Tracking SDG7: The Energy Progress Report contains the most comprehensive analysis and latest official figures on global energy targets set as part of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), which calls for the world to "ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all" by 2030.
The report will show that while the world is not on track to meet its global energy targets for 2030, real gains are being made in certain countries and specific areas - particularly on expansion of access to electricity, and industrial energy efficiency. Progress is slower on renewable energy, where gains in the electricity sector are not being matched in transportation and heating.
The report is a joint effort of the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the World Bank, and the World Health Organization (WHO).
An Executive Summary of the report is available upon request for media, and under embargo until May 2, 2018, at 7:30 AM GMT.
The report will be launched at the Sustainable Energy for All Forum in Lisbon on May 2, with a launch event at 9:30am CET and a press conference at 11:20am CET.
