Craig McConnon tours Secret Solstice 2018 fringe events

The Craig McConnon Group announces Craig McConnon will DJ three fringe events in Iceland

Craig McConnon is jetting off to Iceland this weekend to DJ three fringe events around Secret Solstice 2018. The sudden decision to head for the far north was the result of a culmination of circumstances that opened up three days on Craig McConnon's schedule. “I don't get much time off, so this is a bit of a holiday for me,” said Craig McConnon. “I totally love Iceland. Summer or winter, it's an awesome place to be... as long as you've got a good jacket.”

The Craig McConnon Group was said to be taken by surprise by the flash visit to the Iceland festival, but apparently that's not unusual for their unconventional owner. “Craig knows how to run his business, but he does catch us off guard on occasion,” said a company spokesman. “Once we were looking for him in the office and found him online in Japan. He'd gone off to check out a venue for a client. Go figure. But we got the gig and it turned out great.”

Craig McConnon will not be paying his first visit to Iceland in the summer. In previous years, he's DJ'd at a geothermal pool party as well as an exclusive club located inside a glacier. This year he's attending but won't be performing, preferring to spend some time hanging out and maybe even learning a thing or two. “Iceland's music scene is epic,” says Craig McConnon. “There's just nothing those guys can't do and there's such passion. It gets me. Bjork was a huge part of my early years and I guess that's where the romance began.” When he's not there in the summer, Craig McConnon has been known to camp out under the Northern Lights to catch his breath between backbeats.

According to the Craig McConnon Group, Secret Solstice is a must-attend for any aspiring DJ. “It's been called the most unique festival on earth,” says Craig McConnon. “It's eclectic, electric and really pretty wild. It opens your eyes to what's out there and the real passion there is for music that reaches people in ways they don't understand. There's that element of mystery in the landscape and the whole island just screams music, dance and dreams. There's nothing like it.” Iceland is populated by only 330 000 people and is known for its dramatic geology of fire and ice with glaciers and volcanoes playing home to clubbers as well as scientists and tourists – sometimes simultaneously. Norse mythology permeates the festival with venues such as Hel, Valhalla and Gimli. There's Viking luxury for six people for one week every year, but everyone enjoys the 96 hours of endless sunlight that feed the energy of the four-day festival of music, culture and nature's rawest beauty.

Craig McConnon is expecting a warm welcome from numerous UK artists performing at the main event, including Stormzy, Clean Bandit, Skream, IAMDDB and Lee Burridge. “These are all great people,” says Craig McConnon. “They're so different and it's a challenge to master their mix, but it's all worth it to showcase our local talent in the best way I can.” Craig McConnon is expecting the UK acts to make a hit, particularly Stormzy whose rise to fame has been somewhat meteoric. “I'm super keen to see Stormzy in action again,” he says. “Such a great artist and such a great guy. Respect.”

The Craig McConnon Group has said it won't be all fun and no work for the Craig McConnon Group. Craig McConnon will be accompanied to Summer Solstice by his inner circle of top DJs and they're expected to take the opportunity to workshop some new mixes and high-end equipment. “We've had some brands come to us and say try this out and give us feedback,” said a company spokesman. “Craig's always got his eye out for what's new in category awesome so behind the scenes they're taking it on in Iceland.”

Craig McConnon is due to return to the UK just hours before the Gen:Z launch where he'll be headlining the Grime Gigged event at the new Northampton venue. While some may think this is cutting it fine, Craig McConnon says it's all just a good day's work. “I'm super amped for Iceland and I'm super amped for Gen:Z going live,” he says. “The one just feeds the other and I'm just one of those guys who's got to keep moving. I thrive on this kind of thing, but yeah, I do get some sleep too.”
